Assessment center training

The simulated assessment center begins 3 to 6 months before the multi-day management exam, which is conducted in German for mid-level managers. This usually includes attending weekend workshops and seminars outside of work hours that are specifically designed to prepare for the assessment center. Individual knowledge reactivation should be supported by reading relevant professional books in advance. By combining written assignments and exam topics with practical exercises, we will comprehensively prepare together for the requirements of the assessment center exam in Beijing to increase the chances of a successful outcome. This training requires a comprehensive and strategic approach. Here are the key areas we should focus on:

Corporate Knowledge, Industry-Specific Skills, and Quality Management Expertise

  • Volkswagen Group: Know the history, values, mission, and vision of the Volkswagen Group in general and specifically in China.
  • Automotive Sector: Stay up to date with current developments and innovations, particularly in quality management and laboratory work.
  • Standards and Methods: Master standards like ISO norms (ISO 9001 for quality management) and Automotive SPICE/VDA. Understand Total Quality Management and Six Sigma.
  • Quality Assurance: Be proficient in quality assurance methods and tools such as FMEA (Failure Mode and Effects Analysis), SPC (Statistical Process Control), audits, measurement techniques, calibration, and validation.

Leadership Competencies

  • Leadership Skills: Practice leadership styles, motivation techniques, delegation, and giving feedback.
  • Team Management: Develop skills in team building, conflict resolution, and employee development.
  • Presentation and Negotiation: Refine your presentation and negotiation techniques.
  • Project Management: Train in planning and controlling project phases, resource allocation, and time management.
  • Risk Management: Learn how to identify, assess, and manage risks (using Gantt charts, Kanban, and SCRUM).
  • Problem-Solving: Improve your analytical thinking, data analysis, and problem-solving skills using tools like cause-and-effect diagrams, the PDCA cycle, the 8D report, and root cause analysis.
  • International Work: A strong command of the German language is essential, as is understanding cultural differences and collaborating in international teams.

Individual Preparation

Your personal preparation should include developing outstanding analytical skills in quality management and the ability to present solutions. You should also be able to lead group discussions on relevant topics. We will practice interview questions, including situational questions (behavioral interviewing), and prepare presentations on specific quality management topics. We will simulate leadership situations, employee performance reviews, and conflict resolution scenarios.

It is also crucial to be aware of your own strengths and weaknesses through self-reflection. You should learn stress management techniques, self-organization, time management, prioritization, and how to maintain a good work-life balance. Finally, your personal preparation should also involve exchanging experiences with colleagues and former employees.
